Yonka’s Juvenil vs. essential oils for problem skin: What’s the difference?

Just so I have this right: The ampoule of brown liquid you gave me is the same one that is in the first blog article you sent—yes? It says you can put it all over your face, and I got a different impression from you today, so I guess I’ll need some clarification.

Yes, the blog post you mentioned was for Juvenil [listed below], the same brown liquid I gave you today in my office. What I was talking about when I saw you was about the ability to use Juvenil in larger areas than you would ever want to apply an essential oil. Juvenil is very aqueous (liquid-y) and a little goes a long way. In short, yes you can use Juvenil all over the face. With that said, it would be a waste to use it in places where there is no breakout since this product helps to diminish bacterial infections (red, infected breakout).

For clarification: you can use Juvenil on any breakout—widespread or not. With lavender oil you don’t want to use it “liberally”—just on the individual spots. Lavender or any essential oil is too strong and intense to apply on a big surface area of skin; you just want to use it locally vs. generally. Juvenil, on the other hand, can be used liberally, although it too can be used as a spot treatment only. I hope you and your son find some help with Juvenil!

Here is a short followup from my client:

Okay, my son got a nice dose of Juvenil on the “bad” spots this morning. He didn’t complain too much about it, so we’ll see how it goes!

You can’t go wrong with either of these products (Juvenil or essential oils), but in some cases one is preferable than the other. If you have widespread breakout I’d recommend Juvenil—often and liberally. If you just get a blemish now and then, you might be better off with an essential oil like lavender of geranium. Personally, I like to have my arsenal of skin care weapons chocked-full, so if you can have both on hand for any problems that appear on your skin, then do!

Another client who just had her first facial with me was asking about Juvenil. She has a slight case of rosacea along with some problems with occasional breakouts.

I was wondering about the calendula product you used on me during the facial and also the geranium oil I read about in the booklet you gave me. Could I use these on not only my breakout but on the rosacea places too?

The calendula product I used is called Juvenil. It’s great for taking the redness out of infected blemishes. Although I don’t have any anecdotal experience using Juvenil on rosacea, I’m certain it wouldn’t hurt that skin. Calendula is very soothing and calming, so it might help with the redness in your rosacea skin. Try it and see!

If you want a sample of Juvenil to try on your rosacea places, I’m happy to give you one. Yonka doesn’t actually make “samples” of their concentrates, but for facials I get Juvenil in little glass ampoules. I can give you one and put a little rubber dropper top on it for ease of application. Then you can try it and see what you think.

Geranium (or lavender) essential oil is also great for bacterial infections—same as Juvenil. Essential oils can be found in any health food store. You’d use essential oils on the spots only versus Juvenil that can used a little more widespread on your skin if you have a lot of breakout.
Although you are essentially using Juvenil or an essential oil for the same thing—infected blemishes—they really are to be used in two different ways. Well, that’s not exactly true! Here is the short version of what I’m trying to get across here:
  • YONKA’S JUVENIL
    • Use directly on any infected spots
    • Can be used on entire face if you have a lot of breakout widespread
    • Can sooth irritated skin, so it’s OK to use on a large area
  • ESSENTIAL OILS (geranium or lavender are best)
    • Use a small amount directly on spots—only!
    • Do not use in a large area or spread on your entire face—please!

Yonka’s CREME PG—for oily skin

From Yonka headquarters: CREME PG is a restorative moisturizer that protects and hydrates as it regulates the over-production of sebum (oil). Aromatic essences, humectants and emollients work synergistically to rebalance the hydrolipidic film and regulate breakout-causing bacteria.

Translation: the essential oil content in this cream along with hydrating ingredients help to keep the hydrolipid film (the acidic or proper pH, water (hydro) and oil (lipid) film that is how your skin is naturally balanced), which helps to regulate oil production.

Eliminating shine and purifying oily skin, Creme PG helps balance sebaceous (oil) secretions, tightens dilated pores, and keeps makeup fresh and long-lasting. Creme PG helps stimulate the skin’s ability to repair as the epidermis (outer skin) is balanced and feels smooth to the touch—not oily. Your skin is infused with superior anti-inflammatory and antiseptic clinically proven phyto-sources to regulate and control oil production. Creme PG helps to neutralizes acne bacteria that cause blemishes. It leaves a soft, matte finish that inhibits oiliness.

To say that this (or any) cream “tightens dilated pores” is, in my opinion, unrealistic. But this cream does help to regulate the oil production of your skin, therefore reducing oiliness, shine, and keeping your skin hydrated at the same time. I highly recommend this cream to truly oily skin types. I have had many clients have much success with it over the years.

Essential ingredients:
  • Yonka “Quintessence” (essential oils of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary)—oxygenating, balancing
  • Burdock root—antioxidant, antibacterial, purifying
  • Climbing ivy—strengthens capillaries, clarifying
  • Seropeptides (soy)—healing, hydrating
  • Retinol (vitamin A acid)—activates cell renewal smooths
  • olive oil
Directions for use:

In the morning and/or evening:

  • After cleansing and spraying on Yonka Lotion toner
  • Apply a pea-sized dollop of CREME PG over face and neck
  • Then use eye cream

If you have oily and especially problem skin, please read the following along with many other articles available on this blogsite:

Yonka’s EMULSION PURE—Toner and blemish spot treatment

EMULSION PURE is the third toner from Yonka-Paris and is best for problem skin and acne. It does not spray like the other toners: Lotion PS and PNG.

Pure contains the highest the concentration of essential oils of all the toners, giving it a better effect on inflammation and infections (essential oils have strong antibacterial properties). In a more diluted form, like in Lotion PS (the lowest concentration of essential oils of the three products), essential oils are more soothing for sensitivities yet still have the beneficial properties of stimulating circulation, helping with cellular respiration.

Emulsion Pure is an excellent spot treatment when used as a compress on a specific blemish. It can also be used over your entire face as an extra-strength toner. This concentrate of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary essential oils starts the healing process by helping to calm infections and reduce inflammation.

From Yonka headquarters:
Address the unique needs of your skin with this purifying and regenerating treatment emulsion that is essential for those who suffer from chronic breakouts. With a potent concentration of Yon-Ka Quintessence, this multi-action medicine cabinet in a bottle can be used before and after waxing, on sunburn, on insect bites, and on old scars for purifying, soothing, and regenerating effects.

Essential ingredients:
  • Yonka “Quintessence” 4.3% (essential oils of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary)—purifying, regenerating
    • Thyme—antiseptic
    • Lavender—healing, soothing, stimulates cell metabolism
    • Cypress—vasotonic, clarifying
    • Geranium—normalizes sebaceous secretions
    • Rosemary—regulates lymphatic circulation
  • Botanical emulsifier—stabilizing
Directions for use:

To use Pure as a compress:
  • Take a piece of cotton 2-3x the size of the spot (in other words: use a small piece)
  • Soak in PURE
  • Compress (press) onto the blemish
  • Keep it there at least 5 minutes, no more than 15 minutes

You can compress while watching TV, reading, or talking on the phone; whenever you have 5 minutes to sit still and give the compress the time needed to do its magic.

To use Pure as a toner:

  • After cleansing
  • *Splash PURE over face and neck or
  • Use **cotton soaked in PURE and go over face and neck
  • Then apply your moisturizer
  • You can also mix PURE  into your cremes

*I’m not a fan of using the cotton method. Why not? First you waste a lot of product as it soaks into the cotton. Also, you simply don’t get much or enough product on your skin. For best results, use the splashing method (**pour Pure into your palm, rub hands together, then apply to face and neck.)

Not sure what toner to use? Please read:

Yonka’s CREME 15—for normal to oily and problem skin

CREME 15 is a wonderful treatment cream for normal to oily and problem/acneic skin. I have recommended it for over 3 decades for my clients with problem skin, breakouts, and overall oily skin conditions. I used it personally for over 20 years when my skin was younger and oilier—all with great results.

Extracts of burdock, sage, and birch help to balance and regulate sebaceous (oil) secretions. St. John’s Wort acts as an anti-inflammatory, helping to soothe the skin and take out redness.
Due to the essential oil content as well as other balancing ingredients, Creme 15 can help keep problem spots from occurring and lessen their lifespan. Even if you don’t have problems with blemishes, yet have normal to oily skin, Creme 15 helps to balance sebaceous (oil) secretions and leaves your skin purified, softened, and balanced.

Although labeled a “night cream,
” I have several clients who use Creme 15 morning and evening. I’m not a stickler (or true believer) in day creams being used only for day and night creams only for night. Some people can only afford one moisturizer, while others simply prefer to use one cream morning and night. And in the case of Creme 15, sometimes I want a client with problem skin to use it for day and night so their skin can get the anti-inflammatory, healing, and balancing attributes of this cream 24/7.

If Creme 15 isn’t moisturizing enough for you (especially during the colder, winter months or in drier climates like Colorado), Yonka’s Hydralia or Optimizer Serum can be added to give this or any creme a hydrating boost without adding oil to an already oilier skin.

Essential ingredients:
  • Burdock, sage, birch, essential oil of lime—purifying, balancing
  • Yonka “Quintessence” (essential oils of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary)—purifying, balancing
  • Mallow, chamomile, melissa, arnica, witch hazel—soothing
  • St. John’s Wort—regenerating, anti-inflammatory
Directions for use:

In the morning and/or evening:
  • After cleansing and spraying on Yonka Lotion toner
  • Apply a pea-sized dollop of CREME 15 over face and neck
  • Then use eye cream

Yonka’s MASQUE 103—Detoxifying Clay Mask for normal to oily and problem skin

MASQUE 103, a clay-based mask from Yonka-Paris, is a great at-home treatment for breakout as well as for all-around clean, healthy skin. Clay absorbs oil and draws impurities to the surface while calming and reducing inflammation. Clay also stimulates blood circulation, getting oxygen and nutrients to the cells, which makes a clay-based mask good for all skin, no matter what “type.”

Masque 103 is best for normal to oily or problem, acneic skin. This version has a higher concentration of clay making it more detoxifying and clearing. (Masque 105 is better for true-dry and sensitive skin. With a lesser concentration of clay, it is perfect for cleaning out the pores of even the most sensitive skin. Even if you have true-dry (oil-dry) skin, you can always use a good deep cleaning.) All skin types can benefit from the circulatory acceleration that comes from using a clay mask.

Masque 103 can be used in several ways:
  • As a mask, covering the entire face and left on for 15 minutes, once to several times per week. *Remember to keep the mask moist by spraying with water or toner. See link to How to use a Clay Mask below.
  • As a spot treatment, dotted on the blemish at night before bed and left on while you sleep. If the spot is medium to small without a lot of infection, this dotting method can really reduce its size overnight.
  • For an extra-strength cleanser, mix equal parts clay mask with your cleansing milk, gel, or wash creme and cleanse as you normally do (apply/massage/rinse).
Essential ingredients:
  • 3 clays:
    • Montmorillonite (France)—detoxifies, oxygenates
    • Bentonite (France)—purifying, clearing
    • Kaolin (China)—balances oil secretions, purifying, clearing
  • Borneol—purifying, clearing
  • Sage—detoxifies, antisepticizes
  • Essential oil of orange—astringent, antisepticizes
  • Wild thyme extract—decongests, antisepticizes
  • Essential oils of lemon and lime—astringent, toning
  • Yonka “Quintessence” (essential oils of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary)—purifying, balancing
Directions for use:

Use clay once a week. If you have a lot of breakout, mask 2-3x per week.

  • Apply this aromatic cleansing mask in a thick layer to the entire face after cleansing or after using Gommage
  • Leave on about 15 minutes
*The mask needs to stay moist the entire time it’s on your skin. If you let this (or anything) dry on your skin, it will just dry out the skin’s surface. One step forward, two steps back. This is what I recommend:
  • Apply mask and immediately spray your toner liberally over entire face
  • After 5 minutes or so (whenever you feel the clay start to dry), you will need to spray again and can either use your Yonka toner or get a spray bottle and fill with filtered (clean) water
  • Keep mask moist until you remove it
  • After 15-20 minutes, remove mask with tepid, room temperature water (never hot or cold)
  • After pat-drying your skin, spray the toner and apply your moisturizer

Yonka’s PHYTO 52—Rosemary cream for all skin types

From Yonka headquarters: “PHYTO 52 is a fast-absorbing night cream with a powerful rosemary base that restores firmness and oxygenates to tone the skin, shape the face, invigorate the complexion, and share its phyto-aromatic benefits to the whole body. Toned skin, firmer, cleared complexion, tighter pores.”

Yonka uses words like firm and tighter pores to describe Phyto 52. I love this cream! And I don’t believe in creams firming nor tightening pores as in “Toned skin, firmer, cleared complexion, tighter pores.” However, please read on because Phyto 52 has wonderful attributes, even if I don’t believe truly firming the skin is one of them. The information I have to offer is from 30+ years of experience with Yonka products and thousands of clients throughout those years using and falling in love with Phyto 52. I will say that this cream does feel like it is firming and lifting the skin. Chock it up to its rosemary content in large part.

Phyto 52 has the highest concentration (10%) of rosemary extract of all the rosemary creams in the Yonka line: Phyto 52, Phyto 54* (now discontinued), Phyto 58 PNG, and Phyto 58 PS. Rosemary is stimulating to blood circulation, which helps to get oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells. Any skin type at any age can use this benefit. Rosemary in high concentrations is a lipid solvent; this means it helps to break through fatty inclusions (like sebum—oil), rendering this cream excellent for problem, oily, and acneic skin. Phyto 52 is also detoxifying.

*For any of you who have used (and loved) Phyto 54, you probably know it was discontinued. Phyto 52 would be an excellent replacement product. It does have more rosemary (10% vs. 6% in Phyto 54), but for people with capillary concerns (like rosacea or simple couperouse) and even sensitive skin, Phyto 52 should prove to be an excellent addition to your skin care program. With that said, the 58 creams are also excellent alternatives to replace Phyto 54 (see link below).

The rosemary creams are recommended at night mostly because they don’t make great makeup bases. In other words, if you wear foundation or mineral makeup on your whole face and you’re using a rosemary cream like Phyto 52, your makeup just won’t go on well. Therefore, use Phyto 52 and any of the rosemary creams as your night treatment cream.

Some people don’t love the rosemary aromatic. Phyto 52 would not be a good cream for these people because it has a very strong rosemary scent. However most clients absolutely love the way this cream smells, prompting them to always use it. I personally love the rosemary aromatic. Even after all these years, I can’t get enough of it!
Essential ingredients:
  • Rosemary extract 10%—detoxifying, oxygenating
  • Yonka “Quintessence” (essential oils of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary)—balancing, revitalizing
  • Beech bud peptides—restructuring, smoothing
  • Hazelnut oil—nourishing
  • Aloe vera, plant glycerin—hydrating
  • Vitamin E—antioxidant
Directions for use:
In the morning and/or evening:
  • After cleansing and spraying on Yonka Lotion toner
  • Apply a pea-sized dollop of PHYTO 52 over face and neck
  • Then use eye cream

If you have true-dry (oil-dry) skin, you may need to apply your regular moisturizer over Phyto 52 for better hydration. Or use Optimizer Serum (my personal favorite).

Yonka’s JUVENIL—purifying concentrate and spot treatment

JUVENIL is a calendula, ichthiol, and bleu chamomile-based brown liquid that is a wonderful tool to help calm and heal your problem skin. Used for widespread breakout, it can also be used on individual problem spots. Apply Juvenil to entire face or wherever breakout is occurring.

Juvenil’s ingredients are different than Emulsion Pure (another Yonka product for problem skin), although the action on blemishes is similar. Calendula is soothing and anti-inflammatory, and chamomile (azulene) helps to heal and calm, while ichthammol is antiseptic and antibacterial. The medicinal aromatic reassures you that action is being taken against your blemishes. This healing concentrate can also be mixed into your cremes. (Juvenil can stain clothing—so be careful!) Breakouts disappear, and inflammations are soothed. The skin is purified and healed.

A very effective acne treatment with a unique approach from other standard acne products. Juvenil is non-stinging and doesn’t dry out the skin. It will effectively balance sebaceous secretions, control breakout causing bacteria, and soothe and heal the infections. The balance of the formula clears the complexion and diminishes post-breakout spots. Juvenil is an important product for men as an aftershave for soothing sensitive skin and eliminating ingrown hairs.

My upstairs neighbor friends just got married. The day before the wedding, the groom came to me with several red spots (“zits”) on his face. I ran to my office and got him some Juvenil. After giving him the instructions, I kind of forgot about it. The day after the wedding I saw them both, and he remarked to me what a miracle that little brown liquid had been. And sure enough, he had no evidence of redness or breakout on his face. Hurray! And congratulations to the newlyweds!

Essential ingredients:
  • Ichtammol (sulfur derivative)—purging, antisepticizes, healing
  • Lactic acid—antisepticizes, acidifies, eliminates cellular buildup
  • Yonka “Quintessence” (essential oils of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary)—purifying, calming, healing
  • Calendula—antisepticizes, anti-inflammatory
  • Azulene (German chamomile)—antisepticizes, rejuvenating, soothing
  • Sweet lime—regulates, balances
Directions for use:

In the morning and/or evening:
  • Apply JUVENIL after cleansing *before toning and moisturizing
  • Use a few drops to specific breakout or
  • Several pumps to entire face if breakout is more widespread
  • Next, apply (spray on) Yonka Lotion toner
  • Then apply your day or night treatment creme (perhaps Creme 15)

You can also mix some Juvenil into your day/night creams. You can use Juvenil mixed in only or in addition to using it as a spot treatment. You really can’t use too much of this wonderful treatment product.

*I prefer to apply Juvenil on dry skin vs. after spraying Lotion toner. However, don’t worry! You can clean, spray toner, then apply Juvenil if you prefer that method. Truly, you can’t go wrong as long as these products are on your skin.

YONKA Problem Skin Helpers + more

I have used Yonka products personally since 1985 and professionally since 1986. I am therefore fairly experienced in the ins and outs of Yonka skin care, and I also know how wonderfully it works for all kinds of skin.

Below I have listed products in the Yonka line that can help your skin if and when it is breaking out. If you have chronic breakouts or even just occasional spots (aka: “zits”), there are many Yonka products available to you—along with some non-Yonka skin care helpers.

EMULSION PURE. Used as a compress on a specific blemish or over your entire face as an extra-strength toner, this concentrate of thyme, lavender, cypress, geranium, and rosemary essential oils starts the healing process by helping to calm infections and reduce inflammation.

To use PURE as a compress:
  • Take a piece of cotton 2-3x the size of the spot (i.e.: use a small piece)
  • Soak cotton in PURE
  • Compress (press) onto the blemish
  • Keep it there at least 5 minutes, no more than 10 minutes
  • Keeping the compress on for longer than 10 minutes might cause sensitivity in that area

You can compress while watching TV, reading, or talking on the phone; whenever you have 5 minutes to sit still and give the compress time to do its magic.

To use PURE as a toner:
  • After cleansing
  • Splash over face and neck or use cotton soaked in PURE
  • Then apply your moisturizer

You can also mix PURE into your cremes. Like with Juvenil (below), if you have ongoing problems widespread throughout your face, adding some Pure into your cremes just gives you one more chance to get the antibacterial properties infused into your skin and any infection that is present.

For more detailed information, see:

CREME 15 is a wonderful nighttime treatment cream for problem skin. Burdock regulates sebaceous (oil) secretions and St. John’s Wort acts as an anti-inflammatory, helping to soothe the skin. Even if you don’t have problems, and have normal to oily skin, this cream can help keep spots from occurring and lessen their lifespan. Used at night as your moisturizer, this antiseptic cream helps to balance and normalize the skin. For some clients with severe problems, I have them use this product morning and night. If Creme 15 isn’t moisturizing enough for you (especially in winter or dryer climates like Colorado), Yonka’s Hydra+ (formerly Hydralia) can be added to give this or any creme a hydrating boost.

For more information, see:

JUVENIL. This calendula, ichthiol, and bleu chamomile-based brown liquid is another tool to help calm and heal your problem skin. Best used for widespread breakout, Juvenil can also be used on individual problem spots. Apply Juvenil to entire face or wherever infected breakout is occurring. Applying this product on simple blackheads or non-infected whiteheads is just wasting product (and money).

The ingredients are different than Pure, although the action is similar. Calendula is soothing and anti-inflammatory, and chamomile helps to heal and calm, while ichthiol is antiseptic and antibacterial. The medicinal aromatic of this concentrate reassures you that action is being taken against your blemishes. Juvenil can also be mixed into your cremes. (Juvenil can stain clothing—so be careful!)

For more information, see:

GOMMAGE is a gel exfoliant that is one of the most important products in your skin care routine. Gentle and effective for all skin types, I can’t stress enough how important this product is to the health of your skin. If you aren’t using it because you don’t know how or can’t get it to work properly, please read my instructions (link below), and let’s clear up the confusion! Gommage should be a part of your weekly routine, and if you have problem skin, you should use it several times per week.

Also see:

YONKA CLAY MASK is a great at-home treatment for breakout. Clay absorbs oil and draws impurities to the surface while calming and reducing inflammation. It can be used several ways:
  • As a mask, covering the entire face and left on for 15 minutes, once to several times per week (remember to keep the mask moist by spraying with water or toner)
  • Or dotted on the blemish at night before bed and left on while you sleep. If the spot is medium to small without a lot of infection, this dotting method can really reduce its size overnight.

For an extra-strength cleanser, mix equal parts clay mask with your cleansing milk, gel, or wash creme and cleanse as you normally do: apply/massage/rinse.

For more details, see:

GERANIUM or LAVENDER essential oil (found in most health food stores) is my favorite nighttime spot treatment for occasional blemishes. Essential oils are not “oily” oils; they are antiseptic and antibacterial liquid extracts from plants and flowers. After your Basics 1-2-3 Program (cleanse, tone, hydrate), dot a small amount of geranium directly on spots only, and leave on overnight. (Please note: do not apply geranium or any pure essential oils in or around your eyes!) Unlike having clay mask dots on your face, you can dab essential oils on your spots and, aside from the natural aromatics, no one will be the wiser. You can use geranium during the day, just beware of sun exposure: Pure essential oils can cause photo (sun) sensitivity like hyperpigmentation. Some people don’t like the geranium aromatic, so you can try lavender essential oil, which is pretty widely-accepted by most noses.

Combining a clay mask with geranium oil is an effective, overnight treatment for blemishes. After you’ve completed your evening 1-2-3 program, dot clay mask on any problem spot and let it dry for a minute or so. Then dab a bit of geranium on top of the clay, and leave overnight. In the morning you should see some reduction in size, along with diminished redness of the blemish.

When a client comes into my office with problem skin, I go through a series of questions about diet and lifestyle geared to help me pinpoint the cause of the breakouts. If sugar consumption and other dietary concerns are not factors in their problems, many times a hormone imbalance is to blame. That is when I suggest  acupuncture.

ACUPUNCTURE can be highly effective for clearing up problem skin. It helps to ensure that the body’s vital energy force (known as “chi”) is flowing freely, which helps to balance the hormones by improving circulation. Hormones, believe it or not, can actually become toxins in the body when metabolized improperly. When it comes to skin care, blockage in the detoxification pathways can result in toxins being expelled through the skin.

I try to get acupuncture on a monthly basis. I do this, not because I have health issues or problem skin, but as a preventive measure to ensure my body stays in a balanced state. Acupuncture has been around for over 2000 years. How can I ignore the potential benefits of something that has survived this long? I can’t! And I welcome you to explore this ancient healing technique, not only to help balance your skin problems, but also to ensure the health of your entire body—on a regular basis.

When I initially started receiving regular treatments before I hit 50 and menopause, I noticed a normalizing of my monthly cycle. The duration of my periods was shorter, cramping was less severe, and I just felt more in balance. These changes were subtle, but I knew acupuncture was helping my body on many different levels. In America, if a change isn’t hitting us over the head, we think it couldn’t possibly be occurring. This is strictly a Western way of thinking, I assure you. FYI: Most people find acupuncture very meditative and relaxing. I know I do!

For more information, see:

Finally, Chapter 5 in my book, Timeless Skin: Healthy Skin for a Lifetime, is chock-full of useful information for helping problem skin. I humbly encourage you to purchase a copy if you don’t yet own one. The information contained in the entire book is crucial to understanding how to take good care of your skin. Skin Care A to Z, my second effort in a dictionary format, has many “chapters” on helping with skin issues such as Problem Skin and Breakouts. These books make great reference material for you now and in the future as different skin conditions show up. Most of the content in the books are separated into articles here on this blog. No matter how you prefer to get it, read and use the information for your skin’s benefit.

Also see:

Problems with your skin are generally signs of internal imbalance. Treating these problems topically will help, but it will not keep the blemishes from appearing. You must also go after the cause (hormones, diet, stress). This course may take longer and seem more challenging because it doesn’t simply involve applying an ointment or taking a pill. Causal healing requires commitment, in some cases abstinence, along with a true desire to change. When things aren’t working (you’re still breaking out), it’s time for a change.

Keep in mind, your blemishes weren’t created instantaneously and they probably won’t disappear overnight. Give these products a try and see how they work better for your skin than the blemish-control products you may have used in the past. And if nothing seems to be working, give acupuncture a try. And above all else: Listen to your body—it really is telling you what you need to know.
