About Me—UPDATED (Covid)

As some of you know, I retired from the skin care industry May 2018 after a long, 3 decades plus career. I was a working aesthetician from 1985-2018 and started Carolyn Ash Skin Care in March of 1994, so 24 years of running my own business.

I end my career feeling accomplished: giving facials for 33 years; operating my business for 24 years in 3 cities; writing two comprehensive skin care books; going on radio and TV as well as giving speeches promoting the books and my healthy skin care philosophy.

This blog, as you can see, has over 700 articles containing so much information—knowledge youll need to keep your skin in tip-top shape throughout the ages. Young, old, problem, clear, the advice I offer here is timeless and will help you understand the dos and don’ts for proper skin care.

A big THANK YOU to all of my clients as well as the readers of my books and this blog for giving me the support to continue my career for so many years. I remain in appreciation.

UPDATE: COVID-19
2020
After retirement, I started walking dogs because 1) I love dogs (and animals) and 2) it was a fun way to “pay the bills.” Since mid-March that all came to a crashing halt as I’m sure many of you have experienced in your work life.

One day, I’m not sure why, I decided to revisit my blog (that I LOVE!) and finish the hundreds of drafted articles I had started at one point or another. So, as you can see I have begun posting new articles. In some cases they relate to things when I was still working, but the information and opinions I have from 33 years in skin care didn’t go anywhere after retirement so I can still give answers to questions and complete articles sitting on the shelf. ENJOY! And BE WELL!!!

Here is an older version of the About Me page,
just before retirement in 2018:
My “resume:
  • I am a Licensed Aesthetician in CA, CO, IL, and TX (This is still true in 2020. I have kept my licenses currentfor now.)
  • I have written two skin care books: Timeless Skin: Healthy Skin for a Lifetime & Skin Care A to Z
  • I am passionate about helping people cut through the hype and find their own individual way to have healthy, clear, beautiful skin

I have been working with skin for 33 years (1985), almost 24 years running my own businesses (3/1994); I will celebrate my 57th birthday in April 2018; and as mentioned: I have written 2 skin care books. These facts give me qualifications that not every aesthetician has. I have always felt credible, but now at nearly 57 I know I am a great example of what aging can look like—and I love it! As a side note: I haven’t worn makeup (any) since 1990.

As many of you know, I have worked with Yonka-Paris skin care products for almost my entire career. Starting in 1985 using it personally until I could get it into the spa where I was working. Eventually when I opened my first Carolyn Ash Skin Care salon, of course this was the product I chose and continue to use today. (If you’re familiar with Yonka products, this photo is from the days when I was first using and selling it in the mid-80s and the packaging from that era.)

When I was a teenager, I loved ballet and horses. Ballet eventually won out, but I have always kept a torch lit in my heart for equines. In February of 2013 I started volunteering at Colorado Horse Rescue (CHR) in Longmont CO—a great organization helping to care for these great beings. If you’re in the area and want a wonderful volunteer opportunity, give CHR a call; come by, and fall in love! For a post I wrote regarding the rescue and a TV news story video about it plus more, see:
Quincy Blu liked going to the rescue, too :+)
